Additional Information on Hurricane Ike
(September 17, 2008)
There is a slow recovery after the hurricane for the Gulf ports. As of late Tuesday, September 16th, the Coast Guard announced that Houston, Port Arthur and Beaumont (Texas) were open to shallow-draft traffic.
A message from the Port of Houston was announced to trucks that normal business operations would resume after the electrical power was restored. It was not estimated when that would occur.
The ports of Texas City, Preeport, and Port Lavaca/Point Comfort remain closed.
In Louisiana, the Port of New Orleans was open, while Morgan City was opened with restrictions. Lake Charles was open only to shallow-draft traffic.
Please be sure to contact your move manager here at World Headquarters for the latest information pertaining to shipments that may be affected.
