Possible U.S. Government Shutdown - April 8, 2011
(April 8, 2011)
We have received information from various sources about the repercussions from a possible government shutdown in the United States. The White House and Congress have until midnight tonight to agree to a budget bill, otherwise, there will be a shutdown where most U.S. Government services will be closed effective tomorrow morning, April 9. Only the most essential U.S. Government services will continue to function.
We are hearing that MOST U.S. Customs and Border Patrol services will not be affected and that MANY U.S. immigration services will continue. We understand that passport/ visa processing will be slower due to fewer workers, and that regular visas/passports will not be issued but that emergency visas/passports will be processed.
At this point in time, we want to make you aware of the situation. When communicating with your customers, should this shutdown take place, you will want to advise them of potential customs/shipment delays. If you have any questions, please contact your move manager here at the Home Office.
