Restrictions on Flight Information
(March 26, 2008)
As a continual effort to support Homeland Securities' directives, we are reminded of the Transportation Security Administration information advising international freight forwarders of the following:
"For security reasons, clients that are unknown shippers, will not be informed of the flight number,
flight schedule, or exact routing of their freight until the aircraft has departed on the last leg of the transit."
The definition of Unknown Shipper being: any person, company, corporation or transport agency who has not been qualified as a known shipper. Cargo identified as household effects, personal effects, household goods etc will always be moved under the 'unknown shipper' identifier.
We have been advised by our local TSA Field Inspector on the following:
"Unknown shippers shall not be told initially which specific flight(s) their cargo will
or may be transported on ."
Information that may be provided to the "transferee" may only include the ETD and
ETA on their shipment. We are not allowed to provide detailed flight numbers or
air carrier information.
